Summer STEM Camp

This one-week camp will expose students in grades 8-12 (for the 2018-19 school year) to immersive problem solving in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  This camp is intended to expose students to physics, chemistry, math and computer science as an integrated knowledge base, instead of in the typical learning silos.  Students will work in groups to solve various problems in STEM.  With guidance and supervision from the camp director and assistants, students will design their own experiments to help solve the problems at hand.  As part of their investigation into various problems, students will be exposed to tools in math and computer science to help with the problem solutions.  For example, in the study of rocket propulsion, students will be exposed to such tools as basic trigonometry, vectors, and stepwise difference models as implemented in a Python computer program to devise experiments and computer models.

Limited scholarships available.  Those wishing to be considered for scholarships should send a one page essay explaining why you need the financial assistance and describing your academic and career goals and how an opportunity to attend the FSU STEM Summer Camp will help you achieve those.  Send the essay to Camp Director Joe Kabbes at jkabbes@uncfsu.edu
